IMI’s 4th Annual MMCO Survey: New Health Equity & COVID-19 Sections

The Institute for Medicaid Innovation’s fourth annual Medicaid managed care organization (MCO) survey is ready for Medicaid health plans to complete. Last year, respondents to the survey represented 67 percent of covered lives in Medicaid managed care, resulting in a comprehensive report.

This year marks the addition of several exciting elements for the 2021 survey.

• New this year, the survey includes COVID-19 and Health Equity & Structural Racism sections.

• For the second year, IMI will provide a trend analyses from the survey findings.

• Each participating health plan will receive an individualized, benchmarked report of deidentified, aggregated responses from health plans of similar size.

This year’s survey contains the ten most pressing issues in Medicaid managed care including high-risk care coordination, value-based purchasing, pharmacy, women’s health, behavioral health, child and adolescent health, long-term services and supports, social determinants of health, COVID-19, and health equity and structural racism.

The survey was developed in partnership with Medicaid health plan representatives, researchers, and policymakers with the primary goal of equipping stakeholders with data to accurately depict the national narrative about Medicaid managed care.

The survey can be accessed at our website and should be completed at the parent level.

The survey is DUE BY April 9th and should be emailed to

The IMI team thanks the representatives from the Medicaid health plans serving on the Institute’s Data & Research Committee and Survey Subcommittee who have devoted their time and effort to this important project.
