IMI’s Dr. Moore Provided Expert Testimony to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights on Racial Disparities in Maternal Health

On November 13th, Dr. Jennifer Moore provided expert testimony before the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights during their virtual briefing on racial disparities in maternal health.

The Commission held the virtual briefing to examine the role of the federal government to address racial disparities in maternal health outcomes. Dr. Moore was invited as a subject matter expert on Medicaid and maternal health. Throughout her testimony and response to questions from Commissioners, she shared several opportunities the federal government could consider to address racial disparities in maternal health. A few of the opportunities noted were to support Medicaid coverage during the first year postpartum for birthing persons, developing evidence-based federal clinical and programmatic guidelines to set expected standards of care, and establishing a national framework on access and coverage in Medicaid to midwifery-led models of care.  An archived video of the entire briefing can be accessed here.

Dr. Moore serves as the founding executive director of the Institute for Medicaid Innovation (IMI), a non-profit, nonpartisan research and policy organization, that is dedicated to improving the lives of Medicaid enrollees through the development, implementation, and diffusion of innovative and evidence-based models of care.
