Institute for Medicaid Innovation Rolls Out Repository of State Medicaid Data
New resource turns research group into a one-stop shop for Medicaid data for all 50 states

Washington, DC, September 17, 2018 – The Institute for Medicaid Innovation (IMI), the non-profit Medicaid research group, has released its trove of state Medicaid data for public use. The IMI Medicaid State Fact Sheets, a comprehensive overview of Medicaid programs in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, add value to an organization already known for its data research capabilities.

Given the wide variance in Medicaid programs across the United States, the Institute for Medicaid Innovation saw a need for an easily accessible user-friendly repository of state Medicaid information.  They met this need with the state fact sheets, with each state-specific version including a historical timeline of the program at both the federal and state level, news updates, eligible populations, current Section 1115 waivers, and delivery systems in use in the state. Each state’s engagement with managed care organizations (MCOs) is detailed as well.

What sets this resource apart is its focus on five core areas: value-based health care initiatives, family planning, women’s health, oral health and behavioral health. These sections describe the services covered by the state’s Medicaid program and/or initiatives that the state has implemented in those areas, making it an invaluable tool for researchers in academia and media reporting on Medicaid.

Another unique feature: the fact sheets will be continuously updated with plans to add a special section on LTSS, social determinants of health, and child and adolescent health in 2019.

“The development of the Medicaid state fact sheets grew from the Institute’s frustration that we could not find a single source that provided all of the highlights about an individual state’s Medicaid program,” noted Jennifer E. Moore, PhD, RN, executive director of IMI.  “In sharing them with others, we hope that they are useful in informing the public, policymakers, clinicians, and researchers about the important role of Medicaid in the nation.”
